Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Iain Clow and James Andrews were both diagnosed unexpectedly with advanced prostate cancer in their late 40's. This diagnosis happened to have been made thanks to fortunate PSA tests which indicated possible problems which were investigated further. There is a view that such testing is not necessary until a man's mid-50s, but Iain and James are only still here thanks to getting tested early - so they want to send the message to GET TESTED, chaps! Yes you! It wasn't meant to happen to us, so it could happen to you, right?!
They both underwent radical prostatectomies which are quite full-on, and have since returned to mountain biking. The illness put them in touch with each other, and they found that their experiences before surgery were that this horrible disease is viewed as an "old man's" disease, and there is no support that can say that you can be active and do things afterwards. So, they are taking on a hard ride for a few days in some of Britain's wildest country, the Grampians, to show others that it can be done. Bring it on!
Everyone in our group of eight has been affected in one way or another by prostate cancer, either as a sufferer or because a close relative has it. We are wanting very much to show that it doesn't stop us and to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK, a leading charity in researching Prostate Cancer and its early detection.
