Project Janya

I work in Stash Fine Yarns in Chester and am also a member of a knitting group there, and we sadly lost a dear friend and owner of the shop, Helen Probert, to cancer in February. I came up with the idea of decorating something with knitting in honour of her.
In Chester there is a bronze sculpture of an elephant, donated to the council by Chester Zoo. I got in touch with the council and they kindly agreed that we could decorate the sculpture for a couple of weeks.
The knitting group made squares and we stitched them together to make larger pieces in order to "yarn-bomb" the sculpture. I don't know if you have heard of this before, there was a lot of it in Yorkshire when the Tour de France went through. It is usually done anonymously, under cover of darkness(!), but we wanted to do it as a tribute to Helen so thought we ought to get permission first.
We would like to raise some money for MacMillan with this project. I have set up a “Text to Donate” number which we have displayed on the elephant for people to donate if they so wish. Or you can do it now by texting COVE48 £2 to 70070.
We decorated the elephant today, Sunday 14thh September, and the knitting will be in place for two weeks. Please have a look at the photos.
If you felt this was something you would like to support we will be very grateful for any size of donation
