What do people with Scleroderma do in the winter? Snuggle up!
Scleroderma or systemic sclerosis, is a chronic connective tissue condition affecting more than 6,000 Australians. Scleroderma affects individuals in a variety of ways, but can cause severe implications with organs such as skin, gut, lungs and heart. There is no cure for scleroderma.
Being such a rare, multifaceted condition, many people are often misdiagnosed until late stages of the condition, meaning effective treatment is delayed. Scleroderma Australia is the national representative voice supporting the Scleroderma community across Australia. The foundation works to educate communities and people living with Scleroderma, as well as research into causes and effective treatments for patients.
To raise awareness about the condition, Scleroderma Australia has adopted the sunflower as its icon. The sunflower is symbolic, as like the sunflower itself, it turns towards the sun for warmth. People with scleroderma are usually more comfortable in warmer weather.
Scleroderma Australia received no government funding and is run solely by volunteers. We rely on our supporters to ensure we can support the scleroderma community across Australia. We need your help to raise funds and awareness.
Thank you!
