What is Lone
Buffalo?
Lone Buffalo is a British Charity located in Phonsavan, a very rural, underdeveloped area in Laos where it runs a free programme of English studies, sport and creative skills for more than 250 boys and girls living locally with the aim of ensuring they reach their full potential.
Lone Buffalo ran in 2019 a Female Development Programme called ‘Power Her Up’. One hundred and fourteen girls were given the opportunity to shake off the cultural norms of their region, build confidence and create a wider horizon for their futures.
The comprehensive programme included sessions on child rights/gender equality (which also involved parents)
and life skills to leadership and presentation skills. As a result there was
975% increase in the students who feel confident about making and taking opportunities in their lives.
'Lone Buffalos passion to help young people is an inspiration for me to achieve more every day. It took a girl from the countryside and made her want to see the world and beyond'
Miss Bie Xiong - first Hmong (local ethnic minority) female to graduate at the faculty of engineering.
You can make it happen
Despite the success of the female development programme in 2019 it has not been possible to date to fund the next cohort of girls waiting to join the programme for this year. The cost is just £5000 for the
years programme – that is just £44 per person to give them the opportunity to change both their and their family’s lives.
