Portree & Braes Community Trust (SC046593) aims to stimulate and coordinate the economic, cultural and environmental regeneration of Portree and Braes in response to community-identified priorities.The work of the Community Trust varies from trying to secure land and buildings for community use to promoting renewable energy projects, organising community events and improving access to education and training opportunities.

Our current regeneration project involves securing a plot of land at the heart of Portree to provide community allotments. These will allow people not only to grow their own food, but to develop their connection with the land and to get to know others in the community. Even before the pandemic there was demand for allotments, but there are currently no allotments in Portee.
We are now securing a plot of land which could provide 20-30 allotments, but the complexities involved in the transfer have left us with a large legal bill. While one of the firms responsible did do a lot of work for free, we must find the funds to pay the balance. We are hoping that if 300 members of the community were to donate £20 each, we would have enough to cover the outstanding amount, and we are also hoping that a strong show of community support for this project might encourage other donors to come forward. If we are lucky enough to raise more than our target, we would put the funds towards improving drainage, paths and fencing.
