Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Tony founded The Sporting Chance Clinic Charity in 2000 inspired by his own recovery from alcoholism. In his words, "I based it on my own experiences, and what I felt was lacking. I saw the need for a safe, dedicated environment, where sportsmen and women, could receive support and counselling for the kinds of destructive behaviour patterns that exist in the world of competitive sport at all levels, but that are often denied."

The people who are treated through the clinic are, in the majority, not the high profile individuals we read about - but people who have succumbed to addiction, pretty much destroyed their and their families lives and have finally found the strength to ask for help. Those that can afford to pay do, those that can't are funded in full through the charity. Addiction is not a self-inflicted wound, it is an illness that needs our support and understanding.

Over the past 12 years, The Sporting Chance Clinic has developed into one of the world's most innovative centres for the treatment of addictions and behavioural problems among amateur and professional sports people - in fact anyone who has had any sort of affiliation with sport. Please help Tony continue his work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. ps the photo was the most recent photograph of me running (Zola Budd-esque I hope you notice). I was 5. It was the Sister's Race. I came last - that may give you some idea of just what a feat this measly 13.1 miles is for me. x
