Story
In the summer of 2016 I took part in Portsmouth’s NCS scheme, run through Pompey in the Community. This was the best summer of my life. During NCS I gained more confidence and made so many new friends. As well as this, taking part in NCS gave me the chance to take on new challenges and learn new things, which I have taken forward with me since graduating from the programme. Being given the chance to help my community has shown me what others go through and how I shouldn’t take what I have for granted.
This is just one of the reasons that have influenced me to run a half marathon for Pompey in the Community. I want to support this charity as they do a lot for the community, from working with the elderly and disabled all the way through to hosting a programme as great as NCS!
As well as this; over the course of these past 8 months I have lost 4 stone in weight (due to training for the half marathon). I wanted to do this because of nasty comments I have received due to my weight. By doing this I not only get to show those who have been negative towards me that I can achieve anything but I also get to help a charity who work towards fitness with and around the community.
I am hoping to work closer with NCS and Pompey in the Community as the years go on and I believe that raising money for them is the first step in working together and striving for a greater good.By raising this money for them, it means that Pompey in the Community can continue their work within our community. Currently, they are fundraising for a new minibus which will be used by the disabilities sports team. Helping them means continuous work with everyone in the community.
Any donations are greatly appreciated. Helping me helps the community.
