On August 29th (after much waiting and rescheduling) we are finally heading to Sri Lanka to volunteer with WECare Worldwide. . 

There are millions of street dogs lacking basic veterinary care in Sri Lanka and WECare Worldwide provide essential help for Sri Lankan street dogs. They not only perform surgery on and give care to injured animals, but they also provide a CNVR (catch-neuter-vaccinate-release) program to help reduce the roaming dog population and keep the current ones happy and healthy. This also helps towards eradicating rabies in both animals and humans.

WECare are still a small charity. The work they do is so important but they receive no government funding and, as a result, rely heavily on donations. And, due to the pandemic, they’ve had even more of a struggle on their hands with a greatly reduced staff and no international volunteers able to travel to Sri Lanka to help. But they are persevering every day and working so hard to help all the street dogs (and cats) that they can.
