Our story begins with someone known by few as Stuart Baxter, but more famously known as ‘Backy’ or Pie Van Damme’!

He was ‘The Gaffa’ and set up our original team ‘Ridge Hill United’. We won many battles along the way, and in turn, many trophies, but unfortunately we lost some soldiers in these battles. Firstly, Sean ‘the machine’ Evans and then Backy himself. Both suffered from Mental Health issues and it’s for them that we set up our own ‘vets’ team years later called Van Damme United..... and the rest as they say, is history!

Not only does it give us chance to continue with Backy’s team, but it also gives us a platform where we can get our message across that “Its Okay Not To Be Okay”!

Anyone can suffer with Mental Health issues, so we need to make sure that there is a place where men can go to and open up - and that’s ‘MENTELL’.

Unfortunately Backy and Sean didn’t manage to open up and talk about their issues, and who knows, if charities like MENTELL had been around for them, they may have been able to talk to them and help them.
