Story
My friends and I are embarking on a climb up Mount Kilimanjaro in September and thought it would be fitting to raise some money for charity along the way. For me personally it will be the perfect way to motivate myself up the mountain on what will be a physcially and mentally taxing week.
I have been lucky enough to not have anyone close to me be affected by cancer, but the majority of people are, as you all know I love my facts so here are a few:
1 in 3 People develop cancer in their lifetime.
There are 200 types of cancer.
Every 2 minutes someone is diagnosed with cancer.
Cancer is the greatest fear in the UK, ahead of debt, knife crime and the NSA.
Those are all pretty grim facts, so here are a few on a brighter note:
Doubled. In the last 40 years Cancer Research has doubled survival rates.
8/10. 8 out of 10 people survive skin cancer thanks to Research.
Those are some pretty impressive facts, but why stop there?
Why not make 8/10 become 10/10?
Instead of looking for preventive measures, why are we not looking for a cure?
Well those are the long term goals of Cancer Research but without donations and funding none of that will be possible. So don't let the great of work of Cancer Research peter out, we should capitalise on their great work and continue to pledge more so they can do more.
So save yourself that trip to the pub tonight.
Don't spend £5 on that takeaway.
Stay in this Friday night and save yourself that extra bit of cash.
Instead put that money somewhere where it is needed and most importanty it is used effectively. Someone close to you may not be affected by cancer now, but in your lifetime the chances are that they will; so donate as much as you can and when that time comes Cancer Research will be prepared better because of you.
Also, a grand total of £0.00 will contribute to pay for any part of my trip, so all of your money will go straight to charity and straight to where it is needed most.
Thank for you any donations made.
Peter
