Story
I've created this page to raise funds for Brain Tumour Ireland in memory of dad, Peter Pedreschi, who we lost after a long illness in 2004, and grandad Ian Booker, who we lost in 2006, both tragically to brain tumours. As we (Patrick and Debbi) already asked for your support earlier this year for our healthcare heroes, we've decided to really earn your support, by taking on three separate challenges!
- First is the Malin to Mizen challenge of 600km in 6 months, equivalent to the entire length of Ireland, and a long term commitment.
- I (Debbi) will also be running in the VHI virtual women's mini-marathon (10km funrun) in early October, something I have always aspired to do, although I had hoped it would be with all the fun of the in person event.
- Finally, we (Patrick and Debbi) are also attempting a half-marathon (21.1km/13.1 miles - the equivalent of running from Croke Park to Shankill along the coast, pic in posts below) for the KBC Virtual Dublin City Marathon.
Our legs hurt, so we would really appreciate any help you can give, no matter what size, by clicking the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Brain Tumour Ireland, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
UPDATES!
October 3rd: We completed the womens virtual mini-marathon (Patrick came along with the dogs to support me so I wasnt completely alone), adding a personal best time of under an hour for 10km to the challenge :-)
October 24th (day after my dads birthday) we completed the Dublin City half-marathon today within my (Debbi's) goal time (2hr 17mins and 47 second finish time), despite a nasty headwind slowing our early kms. Due to COVID restrictions, we also completed it within our 5km limits, which meant our planned route had to be changed at last minute. It was total agony towards the end, but Patrick never stopped encouraging me, or going at my pace. In the late stages, I even got some voice messages from family that gave me that final wind to finish. I never thought I would do something like this so big personal victory achieved in memory of my dad and grandad.
As of November 29th, when I migrated this page from 'Everydayhero' to this site as the other one was closing down, we are at 81% complete for the 600km in 6 months challenge...thats just over 488km run so far. My knees, ankles and hips are all giving me trouble, which has resulted in me having to sit out a few runs, and now I am a little behind where we had planned to be - but with still enough time to make it before the new year. Your amazing support and encouragement is what will get us over the line. Patrick is on track, and I will work hard to catch up in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you all for your support, it means more to me than you will ever know.
