Peter Allison was born in Glasgow in 1924, and after an apprenticeship in the dockyards of the Royal Ordnance Factory in Dalmuir, he began a career in Export sales which took him all over the world. He established a reputation as a tough negotiator, but also as someone who was intelligent, perceptive, analytical and honest. He was also a good manager who was much admired by his colleagues.

He devoted the final years of his life to caring for his beloved wife Jan, who died in December 2013, and to running Cobblers, the society of former employees of Coles Cranes, for which he worked in the 1960s and again in the 1980s. Peter was a much loved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, colleague and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Peter had suffered from tuberculosis in the 1950s and he had to have half of his right lung removed. In 2014 lung cancer was discovered in his left lung, and although the treatment for this was successful, he subsequently suffered severe breathing difficulties from which he died in April 2015.

One person in five in the UK is affected by lung disease. Millions more are at risk. The British Lung Foundation is the UK's lung charity and is leading the fight against lung disease, and in Peter's memory we would like to raise money for this excellent cause.
