Why are we fundraising for amyloidosis research charity?

Our friend Ross was recently diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis, a chronic disorder caused by deposits of an abnormal protein (amyloid) in the heart tissue that make it very hard for the heart to work properly. Aside from a heart transplant, which is not always an option, there are few treatments for the disorder which shortens life expectancy to as little as a year.

Ross is currently undergoing the most recently developed treatment which to our great joy has so far proven successful, however the groundbreaking treatment is not a long-term cure. We want to support amyloidosis research in the hope that a treatment for cardiac amyloidosis is developed.

Our friend is a huge cycling fan so we feel it's particularly appropriate to take on the challenge of the Mallorca 312, a 193mile (312km) cycle sportive that loops around the Island including all the major mountain climbs. With a total ascent of 14, 110ft. (4003m) even for a family of fitness fanatics like ourselves this is daunting!

We are grateful of your support and any donation you can make.
