Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Back in August 2019, Graham Bateman lost his life in a hiking accident on a mountain in Marbella, whilst on holiday. A tragic loss for his family and friends.
I had the pleasure of working with Graham back in the mid 90's in Glossop for a textile firm and a few years ago we met again through our industry. He was always smiling and positive, a kind person and much loved in our industry. His death affected so many of us and I wanted to do something in his memory and raise funds for his chosen charity the Glossop Mountain Rescue Team, self-funding, voluntary organisation operating in the Peak District.
Initially, I planned to do a running event or a Triathlon, however, as part of some warm weather training in Tenerife in February I will be cycling up Mount Teide, the longest continuous ascent in Europe, finishing some 2100mts above sea level where the road runs out. It is basically 35km uphill cycle. A befitting challenge, that will take me out of my comfort zone. Doing it in memory of Graham seems the right thing to do and if I can raise some money too, that would be awesome and give me - I hope - the strength and determination to get the job done no matter how hard it gets.
