Story
Hi
When I was 40 I still couldn't swim a length of a 25m swimming pool. I never really learnt, and so decided then to give myself 10 years to learn, and enter an Ironman Triathlon when I was 50. Well, that year is 2023 - so no more delaying. I have learnt to swim in the intervening years, and now, am ready to take on a 2.4 mile swim (equivalent to 152 lengths in a pool), then a 112 mile cycle and finally a marathon (26.2 mile run) to finish. Oh, and I have only 17 hours to finish.
Sunday 2 July 2023 is D-Day. I should note that 1 in 5 of those who set off in 2022 on the Bolton Ironman UK course didn't finish. So it's tough, and so hopefully you are ok with sponsoring me for learning to swim over the last 9 years, my training over the last year, and for trying to finish on the day!
At the same time as trying to complete the Ironman Triathlon, I am raising money for Phelan-Mcdermid Syndrome Foundation UK (PMSF-UK). Phelan-Mcdermid Syndrome (PMS) is a rare genetic condition which affects the development and function of the brain and body. PMS affects over 300 families in the UK. I have friends from university days who helped set up PMSF-UK to support the UK PMS community after their nephew, Charlie (now 14 years old), was diagnosed back in 2010.
The UK charity will mark its 10th birthday in 2024, and will greatly benefit from your donation, so thank you so much.
