Wild Night Out
Campaign by YOUTH ADVENTURE TRUST (RCN 1019493)
Less than 1 in 10 young people regularly play outdoors. The Wild Night Out is our chance to help vulnerable young people discover who they really are and change their lives through adventure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The outdoors has and will always feel like my very own wild playground. As a child, I spent a lot of time exploring and playing in the woods and hills with my brothers and friends. I loved every minute of it. Those experiences have made me who I am today. I still yearn for adventure the outdoors can bring and, for that reason, I plan to complete some long distance walks this year for myself and for charity.

The Youth Adventure Trust are a charity that uses outdoor activities to help disadvantaged or vulnerable young people to develop skills and build confidence to face the many challenges in their life. It gives youngsters a chance to do the things I did and in this age we should be encouraging kids to get outdoors more, to explore & learn, to be more active and appreciate there is more to this country than the urban sprawl of towns and cities.

Being a member of an outdoor activities group at school, my time in the cubs, scouts and as a part of the DoE scheme, not only helped me personally but socially. I learnt a lot of skills that I have carried through my life and want to inspire a generation in the same way I was and still am inspired.  Its important for me to make others, of all ages, believe in themselves, understand that they have the potential to achieve their goals & dreams and to never quit. I want them to have the opportunities I had and more.

For that reason I have decided to challenge myself this year physically, mentally and emotionally by completing four long walks and hopefully raise some money in the process. The challenge is to walk Hadrian’s Wall, Reivers Way and the Coast to Coast between March and June before undertaking a 1,300-mile trek from Lands End to John O’Groats between June and September

I will start at Lands End and work my way up the South West Coast Path, cut in at Barnstaple and head for Bristol through Exmoor before crossing the Severn bridge and heading up Offa Dykes Path. At Knighton I will head north east towards the Peak District and the Pennine Way which I will follow to the Scottish border. From Scotland I follow the West Highland Way and the difficult Cape Wrath trail to Cape Wrath itself. Once there I head east again along the coast to John O’Groats.

This is an adventure I am looking forward to and I hope to be able to raise enough money for the Youth Adventure Trust so that many kids are able to find their adventurous spirit as well.
