Story
Friends & Family,
As many of you know, I have been involved with the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund in many ways over the years. My older sister received a scholarship from DMSF in 2001 and I received my scholarship in 2003. Without the support of DMSF, it is unlikely that we would have been able to attend the Catholic high schools we did, which we strongly believe created the foundation for our futures.
The mission of DMSF is to give scholarship assistance and educational assistance to Chicago students from under-resourced neighborhoods and lower-income families. DMSF works diligently to provide its Scholars with the best opportunity to succeed in high school and college.
For many DMSF Scholars, the high school experience requires emotional, academic and social adjustments. To help ensure their success, DMSF matches Scholars who request a mentor with dedicated individuals who serve as confidants and advisors. Mentors and Scholars communicate regularly and meet at least once each quarter. I am lucky enough to serve as mentor for a scholar who graduated from St. Ignatius in 2021 and is now a freshman on scholarship at the University of Illinois (despite my please for him to become a Rambler or Wolverine!). I've included a picture of us during one of our weekend breakfast catch-ups in the gallery. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience to be able to watch him grow and develop over the years.
Please consider donating to supporting our Scholars this holiday season. Your donation will make an invaluable impact on a Scholar's life.
