Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am very lucky to have three lovely daughters. Kate, Nicola and Caroline. In July 2008 Nicola started to limp. By October her limp was so severe that she made an appointment to see an orthopaedic specialist. Just before her appointment she went to Germany on a business trip, slipped and fell, breaking the top of her femur. She had an operation in Dusseldorf to pin her leg and hip and her brave journey began. Nicola was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and her determination to find a way to fight this horrible disease by natural methods was inspirational. Her end goal was to survive and have a family. That was all she wanted. She was a very well informed and intelligent young woman and her journey led her on to an holistic route that worked for her for four years. Her body was in a good place and she became pregnant. Nic was passionate about the importance of a healthy diet to avoid chronic illnesses, so she studied nutrition at Manchester University, completing the first year of a three year course while she was pregnant. She talked about contacting Jamie Oliver to join him in his campaign to educate and help others. Baby Harriet was born in June 2012. However, as soon as Harriet arrived it was clear that the Myeloma was back. Nic had no choice but to go down the conventional route and accepted Chemotherapy and a Full Donor Stem Cell Transplant. Her treatment was very successful and our Christmas present was that she was officially in remission. Very tragically in February 2013, she lost her battle as a result of infection. Harriet was 8 months old. Nicola was 35.
My beautiful Nicola was a magnet. She lit up a room when she walked in and wore a smile even when she felt unwell. She was an amazing inspiration and I feel immensely proud of her.
Nicola gifted her beautiful little daughter to her wonderful husband Rudy and all of us as a family. It is very important that we continue to raise money and awareness about a disease that gets little attention. I want Harriet to know how wonderful her mummy was and that the value of her life will never fade.
