Story
Christmas is a time in particular where older people and the vulnerable can feel alone and isolated. Over the last few years I have volunteered with Age UK Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) and seen first hand the incredible work Age UK do to improve the lives of older people in our local communities including food shopping trips in their mini bus, help with technology, subsidised meals and yoga/dance classes. I have also personally seen the difference their very well run befriending service makes to the lives of isolated, disabled and frail clients and people with dementia and their family/carers. This quote from one of the older people they help who is blind sums up for me the difference they make “I now come to Age UK H&F for my lunches and they’ve been amazing. I honestly don’t know what I would do without them. I’ve made some wonderful friends here and its nice to have somewhere so welcoming I can go. But really it’s the lunches. £2 for a meal means I can have the heating on when I’m at home. It means I can afford to get myself through the Winter. They’re keeping me alive"
My challenge is to perform a version of the “iconic Time of my Life dance” from the film “Dirty Dancing”. I am very lucky to have my Dance Teacher the wonderful Brian Dibnah of the Dance Lab Putney (WDC World Amateur Dance Latin semi-finalist) who has embraced this challenge with me and has choreographed a version of “The Time of my Life” routine so it is suitable for just two of us to perform live in front of 70-100 people at the Dance Lab Xmas Ball on 17/12/22 (https://thedancelabputney.com/classes/events/christmas-ball.html). With just over a week to go we are working very hard on it and will be doing our best to include a lift in the performance …….and once we have completed the performance we will share footage (photos and/or a video) with everyone 🕺💃
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Every little helps and ALL donations on this page go direct to Age UK H&F and will make a difference to the lives and wellbeing of the older, isolated and vulnerable people in our communities.
Wishing you a lovely Christmas and a very Happy and Healthy New Year 🎄⭐️
