Story
The average age of death for a homeless man is 48 years old. This number drops to 43 for women. Helping Hands exists to help these people get to a place of safety and security with the aim to get them back into work and the opportunity to feel better about themselves.
At Warwick Canoe, we believe everyone should have the chance to take an active part in the community and have teamed up with Helping Hands Community Centre to raise awareness of the brilliant work they do.
From the soup kitchen with advice and referrals to day time volunteering, building skills and self esteem. From qualifications and partnerships with local businesses helping people back into work to the House2Home project which provides furniture and other essentials for those who have been recently re-homes and families on low – incomes. Helping Hands operates a range of projects and activities designed to support vulnerable people on their journey to a better future.
From 10 am on Wednesday the 5th of February to 10 am on Thursday the 6th, Warwick Canoe and Canoe Polo will be holding a 24 hour charity paddle-a-thon on the Piazza. Using kayaking ergos (think rowing machines but for kayaks), we will be aiming to cover 250 miles in 24 hours, twice the distance of the Devises to Westminster International Canoe Marathon. Come down and see us at the Piazza where we will have donation buckets. You can even have a go at paddling on the ergos if you fancy!
Thank you, every donation matters!
