Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

You can sponsor Merlin on his weight loss journey here. All donations will help PDSA treat the thousands of sick and injured pets our vets and nurses see each day.

Introducing Merlin

Vets and nurses at Kirkdale PDSA PetAid Hospital, Liverpool, are hoping for a magical transformation for Merlin an obese Border Collie from The Wirral.

Weight story

Merlin’s weight problems began after he was neutered and his extra bulk is causing him mobility problems and he has developed arthritis. Merlin’s owner, Victoria Rodgers, wants to help him lose weight and lead a healthier life.

She said: “When it comes to food he likes biscuits - digestives are his favourites. He’ll eat anything if given the chance including sweets. He will sit and beg but I have stopped giving into him now.”

Vital Stats

Current weight: 42.2kg

% overweight: 111%

Ideal weight: 20kg

Bad Habits

Merlin likes to beg for treats but his spell on Victoria is wearing thin as she keeps a strong mind to save her pooch from getting even bigger!

PDSA Vet Advice

Sean Wensley, PDSA Senior Veterinary Surgeon, said: “Excess pounds can contribute to a number of serious health conditions and, sadly, it does reduce life expectancy. But the good news is that it’s never too late to make positive changes to a pet’s diet and lifestyle.”
