Story
At the beginning of June I will be cutting off 16 inches of my hair and donating it to the Little Princess Trust who make wigs for young people with hair loss. I will also be taking donations for It's Our Day (Emma's Embrace), a charity set up in memory of my friend Emma Harriet Kirk who sadly passed away in October 2018.
Emma Kirk was a kind, intelligent and courageous young woman. She fought for good; she strived to make a difference in this world. On the 27th October 2018, Emma sadly passed away. Eight months before she died, Emma had a breakdown and as she began her recovery, she realised that there was little or no support for people in her situation.
It's Our Day is a charity set up to hear and listen to the voice of the young. They are striving to understand the reasons why so many young people are reporting poor mental health and identify ways to address the causes. They seek to understand what pressures young people are under, the challenges they face and the stress this brings. We live in a time different to any other we have experienced before. New technology, high costs of living and education and uncertain job security are just a few issues that young people face today.
Currently It's Our Day are campaigning for a Government Led Primary Prevention Strategy.
It's Our Day believes that Primary Prevention Is vital in the fight against mental illness. We believe that education is key to providing young people with the tools and support they need to look after their own mental health, this approach could prevent mental illness developing and ultimately reduce the alarming number of young people who are ending their own lives.
Please support this amazing cause by donating and sharing.
