Story
Hello, my name is Oliver Harding, and I am currently a student on the Air Cadet Junior Leaders Course 17.
A crucial element of the course involves fundraising for the JTYAF charity. For my fundraising, I have chosen to cycle from one side of my Wing, Cumbria and Lancashire, to the other, visiting as many squadrons as I can in-between as check points. This will take place in February 2016. The distance works out around 125 miles and should take around 10 hours to complete. I will be taking as many pictures as possible and recording the journey for evidence of the challenge being completed.
The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation was set up by the family of John Thornton, who won top student on his Junior Leaders course. John was tragically killed in Afghanistan serving with the Royal Marines, and this charity was set up by his family in honor of his death. The JTYAF supports young people within a variety of youth organisations to achieve their ambitions and potential in life. This is done by presenting scholarships and bursaries to young achievers who show key values: courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness against all odds.
'The aim of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation is to encourage and assist young people to ‘climb as high as they can dream.’ Whatever their dream, we hope to help them achieve it.'
