We are a group of middle aged men (Noel Hendry, Lee Taylor, Gary Obi, Dave Fletcher, Nigel Wright, Stuart Tipping, Andy Nichols, Alec Bissett, Nick Bignall) taking part in a drive across Europe covering 8 countries in 4 days on the 17th September. Yes we hope to have some fun on the way but it's not like other car rallies, there are no posh hotels, casinos and fancy restaurants we will be pitching up small tents and cooking on open flames.
The main reason we are doing this is to raise awareness and much needed funds for the Brain Tumour Society as you would genuinely be shocked on how many children get diagnosed with a Brain Tumour each year.
For those who know me your be familiar with my sons story and how tough the last 12 months have been for him and our family. Archie (now 5) was diagnosed with a Pilocytic Astrocytoma (brain tumour) which was a complete and total shock.
Once diagnosed at the L&D Hospital we were rushed to Addenbrookes Hospital where Archie underwent Brian surgery and basically spent the next 2 weeks in hospital recovering.
All the surgeons, doctors and nurses at both hospital were amazing but without the help of the Brain Tumour Society I don't think we would have pulled through as a family. There support, advise, counsel and compassion had no bounds and they continue to support us through this daily roller coaster journey.
They are a charity that relies on donations from us public to aid in the research of such a terrible cancer, that is mostly ignored. Now I have seen what we and other families have to go through I urge everyone to dig deep or just a little as every penny counts, so please give hope to those less fortunate.
