Story

On December 12th 2022, we lost the beautiful soul of our mum Nita Patel. Mum has the personality and smile to light up any room, and she was one of the most selfless people we knew.

In 2015, Mum's (and our whole family's) life was turned upside down when she was unfortunately diagnosed with an epidural abscess. Following two emergency surgeries and a year long hospital stay with rehabilitation she was left partially paralysed and lost motor strength in her legs. `

The immense personal, physical and psychological adjustment which came next was an incredibly difficult time. Despite this, she remained determined to continue to look after those around her to the best of her ability. She continued to support her family navigate through all their major life events; weddings, birth of grandchildren, moving into new homes.. she helped us through it all! However, much of this transition and rehabilitation would not have been possible without the guidance, rehabilitation facilities and equipment of the Spinal Injuries Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore.

The exemplary care and support she received, made the charity very close to mum's heart. Therefore in honour of her life, in exchange for flowers we would like to request a donation to the Spinal Injuries Unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where the money raised will be used to buy beds and equipment to support patients who may go through a similarly life changing injury to our mum.

RIP mum

All our love,

Shahir, Shalini, Rikta and Neal
