Oscar sustained a spinal cord injury when at four years old he contracted acute flaccid myelitis, a rare disease that affects the spinal cord and left him paralysed from his lower limbs.
Luckily, Oscar was referred to the Neurokinex Newly Injured scheme in April last year, where he had six sessions of rehabilitation funded by the Neurokinex Charitable Trust.
Oscar has been attending weekly sessions with them ever since and the progress he has made so far has been incredible.
Sadly, the Newly Injured Scheme, which costs £420 per person, is under threat as a loss of income during the COVID-19 pandemic means the Trust cannot afford to fund the programme after lockdown. To try and save the scheme Neurokinex has launched its Step Up Appeal to raise £25,000 to safeguard these services for people who are waiting for their help. All funds that Oscar raises will go towards the appeal.
To help, Oscar is taking on 20KM over the course of this month by pushing his wheelchair, using his walking frame and cycling his trike with the help of his little sister Edie alongside him. By raising £420, this will provide another six sessions for another person in Oscar's situation.
