We support people affected by cancer to cope with their changing life

Story

As you may be aware, Martin Sanders’s sister, Maria Ellis, passed away from Breast Cancer after a long and courageous battle.

Along with her husband Andy, they both worked for Enfield Council for over 40 years combined. Andy now works for the Nightingale Trust a local cancer charity that provides invaluable support to those going through the same challenges that their family has.

Martin and Sally Sanders have worked for Enfield Council for many years, and because of the close connection of the family with the Council, as well as this being a local Enfield charity, we thought it was appropriate to make a collection in Maria's memory.

About The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre:

"The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre’s mission is simple; to improve the quality of life of cancer patients, their families, friends and colleagues by helping them come to terms with and cope with their changing lives.

After a cancer diagnosis, you may feel an array of different emotions; shock, fear, sadness and you may question why this has happened. As treatment progresses, more emotional and physical changes can occur and the loss of control that cancer has caused can become frustrating.

Therefore, we provide a range of free services designed to provide physical and mental relief. With timely support, you can learn to self-manage, develop coping skills to recognise and reduce anxiety and plan for your future.

We know that cancer support is not one size fits all, neither are our services so we work with you to make sure you are getting the help you need. We deliver a range of practical, emotional and physical services completely free of charge at our centre. All of our services are provided by a wonderful team of qualified professionals and volunteers."
