As you may know, in 2011 I did a 48 hour silence to fundraise & raise awareness for MS, as my dad unfortunately has the debilitating illness. I had wanted to do something different and that posed a real challenge, so as a publicist by profession, not talking was it!
It's three years later and my dad's condition has worsened - it's devastating to watch his every day battle, but those who know him always remark on his admirable strength and bravery, his positive disposition and that he never complains.
I've joined forces with a proactive MS charity, Shift.ms, and we are making the silence into a global mission, inviting the world to embrace a 48 hour sponsored silence from 20th November.
Having accomplished 48 hours without saying a single word, I thought I should challenge myself further so I'm going for 72 hours!
Mission Silence is an important mission because not enough is done for MS, yet over 100,000 in the UK suffer from the illness that affects the body's nerves and can render a person disabled. MS is incurable.
We are aiming to make the world's loudest silence.
I shall stop speaking at 7pm on Thursday 20th November (with the rest of the silent army) and will say my first words 72 hours later at 7pm on Sunday 23rd November.
During my last silence, I continued my day as usual - went to work in a busy office, out for dinner, to the pub, shopping, even had a silent haircut....I think it was the hardest thing I've done - did you know the average person says around 20,000 words a day? Most of the time we don't even know we're speaking. Anyway, this time I'm going to make my silent journey even more challenging - you can follow it on Twitter @NLEWritesLife
