Story
Thanks for getting this far and reading my page!
I have now completed the walk and am nursing slightly sore hips and muscles in my calves that feel made for a slightly shorter woman...more stretching needed. The weather was glorious, the company on the last two days was great - special thanks to Clare, Sally and Jeanette - the B&B at new farm Restaurant in Over Stratton was highly recommendable and Helix the labrador behaved well. He even survived a ewe attack on the first day! We saw herons, water rats, buzzards galore, shags, a mink, lots of otter proof but no otters, moorhens, ducks, an incredible number of swans, canada geese and lots of birds I am too ignorant to name.
I would like to say a BIG BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far. This is good for the Somerset Wildlife Trust and I have enjoyed the whole experience. What a beautiful place we live in!
This is not just about raising money; it's about raising awareness of the work of the Somerset Wildlife Trust and appreciating the fabulous landscape and biodiversity we have around us.
So...I walked the River Parrett from source to the sea from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 March 2011. It is a beautiful route about 50 miles long that crosses this marshy, peaty landscape with world-famous bird populations and small rural communities, overlooked by Glastonbury Tor and Burrow Mump, and the Mendip Hills beyond. It is an area under threat of flooding as sea levels rise, and it is a symbol of so much that is precious in the south west.
You can still donate now. Your money will go to Somerset Wildlife Trust's work to protest our environment.
