Story
On Monday the 18th December 2017 as the final countdown
for Christmas began (or ‘Midgemas’ if you knew Simon and his obsession for
Christmas), me and Harry had our bags packed ready for a Christmas movie
sleepover and a day at Winter Wonderland with Simon and Dickie. Never did
I imagine to be packing up at work that night excited for our road trip to get
a call and be told that Simon and Dickie had sadly lost their lives in a hotel fire
while on a Christmas break by the shores of Loch Lomand. Heartbroken still to
this day I will forever keep the boy’s memories alive and will be completing this
walk in their memory. Those that knew the boys know how they brought so
much love and laughter to everyone's life and I was truly blessed with thou
younger, a great role model in life and thankful that Dickie was brought into
our family too.
On Sunday 30th April I will be doing a 22.7 Mile Kilt Walk from Glasgow to the shores of Loch Lomand in
memory of Simon & Dickie and
will be raising money for Scottish Hazards who have been our families rock
through a long challenging legal and grieving process. The time, support and now
a friendship for a lifetime from Louise and Ian at the charity will always
.mean so much to us as a family so I want to repay them for everything
they have done by raising as much money as possible for an amazing charity
that helps families like ours. We truly wouldn’t be where we are today
without them enabling us to get questions answered and to make change.
With the
continued support of Scottish Hazards we are in the process of appealing for
changes in fire safety legislation on the back of the Fatal Accident Enquiry
we had to also go through a long appeal process. The Fatal Accident Enquiry finally
took place in August 2022 followed by the outcome provided in January
2023 in which recommendations from the Lord Advocate in Scotland were made
and have been passed to Scottish Parliament and currently in review. If we can
make changes to save future lives and protect others from our loss, we know we
will be doing the boys proud.
Been able to do this not only in Scotland but
finish the walk where the boys spent their final days couldn’t be more
fitting.
Any donation no matter how small will make a difference and
will support such a great charity that provides free and confidential
health and safety advice, support and training to workers and their families.
The work they do is life-saving and your support is hugely appreciated.
