Story
Nick was my brother. He died this year far too soon, aged just 38. He leaves a huge hole in my life and of course in the lives of so many of his friends and family.
Nick didn't die from Epilepsy, but it undoubtedly marked his adult life in many ways. The courage and mental strength Nick required to touch the lives of so many people, whilst managing his condition and seeking to alleviate its impact on his life - whether that was from the seizures themselves, the injuries and implications resulting directly from them or from the side effects of the drugs and treatments - was a huge part of what made him a special human being. He was brave, caring, loyal, resilient and kept a wicked sense of humour in the face of everything that Epilepsy threw at him.
If there was just one thing I wish I could have done for Nick, one magic trick that would have given him a fairer shot at the life he most wanted and deserved, it would have been 'no more Epilepsy'.
So the choice of fundraising in his memory was an obvious one.
We need a greater understanding of the condition, better treatments and mitigation with fewer side effects for those that suffer from it, and more research towards potential cures in the future. Nick deserved, like many thousands of others, a better future than living with Epilepsy ever offered him.
If you are able to join us in donating towards this cause - in memory of my brother, Nick - then I, his family and many friends would be so grateful.
Thanks - Andrew
