Story
GRACE DEAR TRUST
Our charity was set up after losing our beloved daughter and sister, Grace Dear, to suicide aged just 27 in February 2017. Grace had been suffering with depression and anxiety from the age of 13, but hadn’t felt she could reach out to anyone to help her make sense of her feelings. Not knowing why she felt the way she did, she suffered in silence for many years. Our trust works to educate young people, encouraging them to talk about their feelings and make mental health an everyday topic of conversation. "it's ok not to be ok"
NICK BROWN:
This November, I’d like to try to raise a bit of money by participating in Movember for a local charity in Surrey, The Grace Dear Trust. Although the Grace Dear Trust is a general mental health charity, the Movember movement typically focuses on men’s mental health, prostate & testicular cancer.
Some facts on the topic:
- 3 out of 4 suicides in the UK are by men
- Globally, on average, 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day
- More than 700,000 people die due to suicide every year
- Suicide is the fourth leading cause of death for 15-29 year olds
