We help people with acquired brain injury to rebuild their lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Please take the time to read my story and I'd be really thankful if you would then sponsor me to raise money for Headway - a local charity that provides care and support for individuals and families who are learning to cope with life after a traumatic brain injury.

My story:  On June 8th 2019 I went out to walk the dog as usual on a normal Saturday morning. As I returned my wife told me that the left side of my face was not moving and I was slurring my speech. Later I came to understand that I was having a brain bleed, which resulted in a stroke. I lost use of my left side of my body within the next few hours. 2 weeks later I had high risk complex neurosurgery. But praise Jesus! I made a supernaturally rapid recovery both physically and mentally. I was discharged home 9 days later and able to do some basic exercise within 2 months! The full road to recovery from neural fatigue and traumatic brain injury however took a while longer to complete. I'm thankful to report that I am now back to full time work and I am able to train physically, albeit not to my previous crazy intensities! I had phenomenal support from the NHS neurology department in Cardiff and Vale UHB and the community neuro team in Cardiff.

Traumatic brain injury can happen to anyone at anytime. Through injury, accident, being knocked off a bike, or through illness. It can happen at any age. The outcome can be life changing and life lasting, not only for the individual but for family and friends. Headway is a great charity that provide support for all involved and help to rebuild lives.
