Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Hogmanay I will be shaving off all of my hair. I have been growing it out for about 8 years and its now 66cm long which is just over 2 feet (apart from the pre shaved parts of my hair). I've been wanting to do something very different with my hair for a while now. As a result of this in late November I had the second side of my head shaved but it wasn't enough. Then I decided to go all the way and give my hair a fresh start and a chance for me to try out shorter hair styles with healthy natural hair.

I've decided that I wanted to give away the hair I shave to the Little Princess Trust after I got the idea from my friend who also donated hair back in 2017. The Little Princess Trust help to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to medical issues. I think this is a way better ending for my hair rather than just throwing it away.

I wanted to donate to a charity because if I'm going to do something drastic to myself I may as well help people while I'm at it. I have chosen LGBT Youth Scotland because I have several friends who are part of the community. I have known some of them since I was born, others just a few years but I love them all just the same. They range from non-binary, genderfluid and transgender to gay, pansexual, bisexual and asexual. Some of them are still figuring it out and that's ok I'll still be there for them all the way through it.

Unfortunately I have heard so many stories of them being followed, chased, attacked and even had people try to break into their house. Some of these situations I have been present to witness or even been a target because I am associated with them. Another issue for the majority of my friends is their family. They are forced to stay silent to avoid being beaten, left alone or disowned by their families. Or what's even worse is I've had a friend come out of the closet and be forcefully shoved back in by their parents who use the wrong name and pronouns after they made it very clear that they weren't comfortable with it. Luckily a few of my friends have wonderful accepting parents and siblings who are helping them live how they want to and doing every thing in their power to help, support and respect them.

My hope is that LGBT Youth Scotland can help make this country a safer place for them to live, a place where they don't fear being attacked, where they can be accepted, understood and helped through their journey to figuring out who they are.

The goal was to raise £200 but since so many generous people beat that in just 2 days (can you believe that?)  so then I changed the goal to £500 after a suggestion from my Uncle Gareth but the next day I woke up to £700 and have decide to try and hit £1000 in the next couple days. I know many people don't want me to shave off my long, curly, ginger hair as its the dream for them but its just hair to me (I've always had curly ginger hair so its not a worry for me to chop it all off) and it'll grow back eventually. The hair is going to a good cause and will be helping to raise money to benefit some of the people I'm closest to so I hope you consider donating.
