Story
A year ago, Small Steps Project won a grant for an edible playground and nursery, for the children of Ngong dump site and their community who were at risk of displacement from floods.
Over the last year we spent just over £30,000 to set up this project with a water, hygiene and sanitation project with showers and eco toilets, a nursery and creche, a kitchen and feeding programme, a giant playground and edible gardens.
July was there month that we handed back this project to the community who created it for themselves and they children. All year they had grown fruit and vegetable's, so that they would be able to continue the feeding programme and staff salaries.
The rest was paid for: trees and plants, playground, toilets, showers, and buildings.
It was a new beginning that brought hope to thousands of people form Mathare slums and Ngong rubbish dump in Nairobi, Kenya.
However 2 months ago the dump site closed, this lead to mass unemployment and anger and sadly someone took out their rage on our playground by starting a fire. The playground is partially destroyed. The entire community is devastated.
This fundraiser is to support that and the team who want to rebuild and restore what was burnt.
Every penny of this fundraiser will go towards rebuilding hope through new fencing, security, plants, toilets, earth and repainting and repairing fire damage.
