Story
We are setting up this page as parents who have lost our dear son, Neo Mann-Salmon, to an allergic reaction leading to a severe anaphylactic shock on Monday 11th April, at the tender age of 16.
Whilst this is every parent’s worst nightmare, in our loss we hope to raise awareness around the devastating impact that allergies and anaphylaxis can have on individuals and their families, and hope that this can help answer some of the questions being raised by the wider community, family and friends.
Neo was a happy child, always bouncing around and bringing joy into our lives. He had developed allergies from the age of 1, including severe eczema and asthma, and at the age of 8, suffered a severe anaphylactic shock, and was diagnosed with serious and life-threatening allergies. At this point Neo and our lives’ changed, with his allergies ranging from those as common as nuts, dairy, and eggs; to more unfamiliar causes such as types of grass, and varieties of fruit.
Neo carried Epinephrine (EpiPen) with him at all times and remained extremely diligent in what and where he ate. Despite the enormity of his conditions, he always retained a positive attitude, and never let his allergies define him. The restrictions he faced never stopped Neo from living a full, happy and extremely active life, with a great love of basketball.
On the 9th April 2022, Neo suffered an allergic reaction leading to a severe anaphylactic shock. He was rushed to hospital and battled valiantly, but despite the best efforts of many medical professionals, sadly he was unable to pull through.
We are setting up this page to honour Neo, and to raise awareness and support research into allergies and anaphylaxis, via Allergy UK, the leading national charity specifically focussing on this area. Allergies are increasingly common, but their life-threatening nature and the impact on those individuals who live with them on a daily basis remains a significantly under-represented issue.
Whilst tragically the circumstances surrounding the untimely loss of Neo cannot be changed, the work which can be done to raise awareness to help prevent others from suffering such a devastation can be. We hope that those reading this can make a contribution to help make a difference to somebody else’s life.
