Story
I am Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Greenwich and I will be taking part in the Asics British 10k London Run on July 11th to raise money for the university's Alumni Fund. The Alumni Fund provides assistance for students with a disability or dyslexia, supports those in serious financial emergencies and pays for specialist library resources.
As it happens the University of Greenwich is hosting, on July 7th, the end of the Brussels to London Cycle Challenge in support of Right to Play ( www.righttoplay.org.uk). The Cycle Challenge involves cycling from Brussels to London from July 4th to 7th and so I thought that I would spice up the 10K a little by riding the Cycle Challenge as well. All in all this will be a total distance just shy of 400km., around 240 miles. Some of you will recall my earlier ultra event for the University of Glasgow (www.neilgarrod.net). However, a few years and many more miles have happened since then and a recent radical change in running style to try and extend my running career means that even the 10k will be a challenge. So please be generous!
For the Cycle Challenge I will be joined by my fellow Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Tom Barnes. Tom insists that he will not take part in the run but as an avid cyclist I fear that he is going to set a red hot pace in the cycle ride!
Please help us support the Alumni Fund which provides such valuable assistance to so many of our disabled students and those suffering serious financial emergencies.
We’d welcome your donation in support of our challenge, and if you wish, you can welcome us both back on July 7th as the cycling concludes in Greenwich Park with a receptio to follow at the University. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
