Story
Ten years ago I ran the London Marathon for the first time. Since then, I’ve retired, returned to work five times to support the NHS through the pandemic, turned 70, and retired all over again.
At my age, you may think I should be putting on slippers, but instead I’ll be pulling on my running shoes to support an excellent cause by taking on the London Marathon for the second time.
Having done it before, I know it will be tough, but what better way to challenge myself as I enter my 8th decade?!
I’ll be supporting the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. As a trustee for the last 5 years, I’ve had the opportunity of seeing first hand amazing work of the team helping support people with life limiting conditions to both live life to the full, and be supported in their final days.
Since the NHS provides less than 25% of the £4.2M required to provide all the services I’d be very grateful if you could please be generous to support such a great cause, and keep me motivated through the long, cold, wet training miles!
I am following the TCS training program, which has gone well so far, I am now running 35 miles a week with a long run of 16 miles. The mileage will go up with 18 and 20 mile runs each of the next two weeks before "easing back" before the big day.
