My journey to the Great North Run actually began when I injured my back in 2005. This may sound like a strange starting point! But it was such a long pathway to recovery and my surgery didn’t happen until 2014 and I then told myself “I want to run a marathon”.
Fast forward to 2022 and I found Harrogate Town Runners. This happened at exactly the right time for me, as I went through some very tough times in my personal and work life. Town Runners gave me friendship, support and the motivation to run. That group, and running itself, got me through a very hard year.
Town Runners is part of Harrogate Town Community Foundation, who organise various other activities and groups to support many different people. They are a charity and rely on fundraising.
In May I ran a marathon- the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon. So I finally did what I promised myself all those years ago. Now, after many other running events, I’m going to do the iconic Great North Run and give something back to the Community Foundation. Please support me if you can.
