In 2011 my heart broke when a dear friend lost her baby. It is something that affected me deeply and is constantly in my thoughts. Aoife's story is beautifully reflected here: (copy and paste the link into your browser)

There are only a few friends that you can be extremely silly with (we used to giggle inanely in serious law lectures and twirled in the Royal Courts of Justice) but then also remain close after tragedy. (You have a solid place in my heart Mrs Goldie.)

When Aoife told me that she and John would be starting this awesome 5 for 5 Challenge in memory of Seamus I knew I would do something. I wanted to do something! Then, after reading one of their blogs and hearing that Tommy's wasn't getting as many donations as SANDs, sleepy and overworked I saw a post about Ride London-Surrey for Tommy's and thought, "hey - I have a bike..." Consequently, I'm now training to cycle 100 miles. If you knew me in my youth you may have faith in my ability  as I was a sporting machine - I'm going to channel this - there are muscles in me somewhere... If you know me now, I'm more like a teapot (short and stout) but I'm a lawyer, I'm applying that strategic and disciplined thought process to training! 

Ultimately it will be tough but such a worthy cause. We all know little people that are brilliant - Tommy's is working to save babies' lives. Undertaking vital research to prevent miscarriages and still births. Out of tragedy we can try to help save  other lives and what greater legacy/tribute is there than this?
