About the charity

Nairn Drama Club was founded in 1946, with about 10 members, led by one of the local teachers, Lena Hay. The audience sat on wooden benches and chairs. The dressing-room was a room hired in the Links School, and the cast ran up and down the street in costume, even in rain or snow. The club eventually bought the hall and a wooden shed next door, which had been a coppersmith’s workshop. As the club developed, we started to produce bigger and better shows. As well as one-act and full-length plays in the Little Theatre. Fast-forward to 1998 when it became obvious the theatre was becoming unfit for purpose. It was not practical to carry out further refurbishment and an ambush us plan to rebuild the theatre was hatched. With significant funding which included Scottish arts council and national lottery the theatre was ready for action in 2004. Going from strength to strength the theatre now produces all kinds shows ranging from concerts, drama, comedy and pantomime as well as being a haired community space.
