We fund medical research to help find a cure for PSC

Story

On the weekend of the 19th September 2020 Nadene Lidington (Chiropractor), Kelly Nicol (Chiropractor), Angela Sells (Physiotherapist) and JJ Cook (Sports Therapist) will be taking on the challenge of completing the three peaks in under 24 hours. This includes walking to the peaks of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon with the driving between, all within a 24 hour timeframe. We will be raising money for the charity PSC Support in honour of Alexandra Keel, who went through so much suffering and was taken far too soon from this world during the lockdown period.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is an immune-mediated disease of the bile ducts with no medical treatment. PSC is referred to as ‘the last black box in hepatology’ because there is so much doctors don’t yet understand about this complex condition, despite impressive research progress in the last decade.

Nadene felt privileged to meet Alexandra back in September 2019, when this lovely lady booked in to the clinic asking for help whilst she was on palliative care having suffered from this rare liver disease for the past 10 years. She was diagnosed at the age of 24 and this is where her battle began. She underwent 3 liver transplants in the hope that the origin of the auto-immune disease would be removed with the old liver and she could continue her life with a new one, but unfortunately they all failed. Even though these transplants would have certainly prolonged her life it wasn’t without the up hill battles recovering from each intensive surgery and the musculoskeletal pain it left her with. We would love to raise as much money as possible to help fund the research for a cure!

Her story will stay with Nadene for the rest of her professional and personal life with how cruel life can be, as Alexandra lost her battle at the young age of 33. Having treated her through the last 6 months of her life, it was obvious how kind and gentle natured Alexandra was, which made her courage even more meaningful.

People with PSC urgently need a treatment that works. Donating to PSC Support means you are helping them fund more ground-breaking research projects. The next one could be the breakthrough that people with PSC have been waiting for. #LetsBeatPSC
