Story
2020 has been tough, Covid-19 has brought challenges to our communities that we never thought possible. It has also brought communities together in a way that will never be forgotten. 2020 also saw the Aberavon Surf Lifeguards stepping in to provide a 7 day a week voluntary service to protect the thousands of people who flocked to our beach this summer.
Sadly Aberavon Surf Life Saving Club cannot host their traditional New Years Day Dip this year. This event is when hundreds join together and wish the new year in by having a refreshing dip and experience the benefits of cold water dipping on Aberavon beach.
This is a huge community event and one which raises vital funds for the voluntary run club. Last year’s dip raised £6,000 for the club. We are very sad that this tradition cannot go ahead this year but the safety of the community is more important.
In the absence of the NYD Dip - we want to still have some fun and hopefully raise some funds by bringing back a classic virtual campaign - one which can still give you the benefits of cold water dipping, you don’t even have to leave your house and can have fun by nominating friends and family - THE ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE!
Rules are simply:
- Film yourself having a bucket of ice cold water poured over your head
- Nominate 2 others to do the same
- Donate £5 if you can to our just giving page (don’t forget to add just giving if you are eligible!)
And why not shout loud - GOODBYE 2020 or HELLO 2021 whilst your doing it!!!! Please share on our facebook and/or instagram pages.
