We help break the cycle of poverty to transform the lives of children

Story

New Hope Children's centre is located in the Uplands area of Kenya, just north of Nairobi. The centre is home to approximately 90 children with 180 being supported in the community, ensuring they're able to go to school, eat and have basic medical care.

The centre also supports local adults (The Grannies) who live in the community and find themselves in unfortunate circumstances, often due to poor health.

The Ukraine crisis is unimaginable for those in Ukraine and we recognise supporting them is currently a lot of people's priority (rightly so), but the knock on impact is massive for those in Kenya, a huge proportion of food is grown in Ukraine and exported to Kenya, with this being unavailable at the moment, prices of some goods have more than doubled.

Food increase examples:
Bag of 2kg maize flour - KSH80 > KSH140
Cooking oil increase by over 50% and is therefore no longer purchased.

The money you donate will go towards ensuring the neediest of the community are provided with the food and nutrients they require.

Story of Grace.......Grace has three young children and a one month old baby. She is unable to provide food for her children, let alone herself and this has had a severe impact on baby Samuel (see picture in gallery) as minimal milk is being produced and therefore he was severely malnourished. On 16 March 2022, Grace and her family were found by local people, visibly struggling, her children hadn't been in school for a long time. The local community are aware of New Hope and approached Anne to request their help. Anne visited the family to see what she could provide and saw quickly that immediate help was needed to ensure baby Samuel's life wasn't in jeopardy and to get the other three children back in education. Anne had a spare home in Laura and Gareth's village (one of the purpose built villages to support the poorest in the local community) after one of the Grannie's recently passed away. Grace moved in and was given food and clothes. The centre are working closely with the family to ensure Grace's nutrients are correct to produce enough milk for baby Samuel to begin thriving. Formula is being given as a temporary solution to build his strength. The other children will be supported through the children's sponsorship programme to ensure they are back in education and able to get the food they need. Grace was struggling because she couldn't afford rent on her house after just giving birth, food was too expensive and school bills unimaginable.

We are incredibly appreciative of those sponsoring a granny (currently £10 per month), given the difficulties currently being faced, this isn't sufficient to feed families for a month, rather then increase sponsorship in these challenging times, we are looking to help all in the community by giving people the opportunity to donate.
This will ensure families aren't constantly going to bed hungry.

If anyone is interested in the sponsorship programme for children or grannies and would like more information, please contact: newhopesponsorship@hotmail.com.

Thank you for everything you've all contributed.
