Mt Kili Madness is aiming to take cricket to new heights and in the process to raise money for and awareness of some wonderful causes.
Currently the world record for the highest recorded game of cricket stands at 5,100m which took place at Base Camp 2 of Everest. We plan to play at 5,785m which will be a huge physical achievement and will undoubtedly raise much interest, coverage and support. The expedition will set off on Saturday 20 September for a 7 day hike to reach our chosen pitch. The wicket will be laid, the stumps will be set up and the cucumber sandwiches will be cut in preparation for a game of 20/20 in the crater of one of the most magnificent mountains in the world – Mount Kilimanjaro… The victor will be crowned the King of the Mountain the losers – well they will hold their heads in shame – and carry the kit down!
Poaching is rife through Africa – it is estimated that 100 Africa elephants are killed each day. This is a complex societal issue but with Rhino horn fetching $60,000 per kg it is no wonder it is fuelling poaching activity. This is not only unbalancing a delicate ecosystem it is destroying the tourism industry across Africa.
