Story
Over the last few months I have been working with this incredible small charity and been given a real insight into the brilliance and importance of their work. They exist to help everyone in the UK who has a genetic condition. Like most small charities, they’ve been hit hard by lockdown. They’re predicting a 50% loss of income and have already had to make two redundancies (from a staff team of 7!)
As part of my work, I’ve been collecting stories from families affected by genetic conditions.
It’s been heartbreaking hearing about all the children who have died before their fifth birthday and all the families that have been trapped indoors because they’re in the “vulnerable” category at the moment.
Genetic Disorders UK runs a free helpline (led by a talented genetic counsellor who has a genetic condition herself). They also raise money for smaller charities that support people with rare conditions through their annual “Jeans for Genes” campaign.
