Story
Hi Folks,
Myself and my two friends have set this page up to raise money for the MSA Trust. My father passed away in December 2020 and in honour of his memory I want to raise funds towards the trust that helped him and our family. Daddy was diagnosed with MSA in 2010 and through all the ups and downs of it, he was still able to have the craic and the laugh with us and those close to him.
From our social medias you can see we enjoy a hike or two, so we have set ourselves to climb the 7 peaks in one day on the 22nd July. This will be both a physical and mental challenge and we would be grateful for your support.
What is MSA?
Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a progressive neurological disorder that affects adult men and woman. It is caused by degeneration or atrophy (shrinking) of nerve cells in several (or multiple) areas of the brain. This can result in problems with movement, balance and autonomic functions of the body such as bladder and blood pressure control.
Why has nobody heard of MSA?
MSA is a rare disease with around 3,300 people in the UK and Ireland currently living with it. This means that most people will never have heard of the condition, unless they themselves have already met someone with MSA. Sadly, this is also true for a lot of health and care professionals which is why the MSA Trust works to raise awareness and increase understanding of MSA throughout the UK and Ireland.
How will the money help?
As an independent charity we rely entirely on charitable donations to carry out our life-changing work. We fund crucial research into the cause and cure of MSA, with over £3 million pledged over the next 10 years. See attached image that also shows how the fundraising helps.
