Calvert Trust Exmoor is celebrating its 25th birthday but we need fundraisers to help us reach our £250,000 target to see us through the pandemic and beyond. Step, run or wheel where you like, when you like, at your own pace.

Story

Coming out of lockdown is positive in so many ways - businesses reopen, friends meet, life resumes.

But for many, re-entering daily life brings with it a sense of anxiety, fear and eroded self-esteem... and perhaps carrying a few extra post-lockdown pounds.

Weight can be so much more than a number on the scale - it affects health, how people feel, how they act. It is an excuse to say "no" to so much in life.

As a slightly-too-curvy 40-something with worsening knees and chafed thighs... t's time to make a change.

I have chosen to partner with the wonderful team at the Calvert Trust Exmoor, a local charity and adventure centre enabling people with physical, learning, sensory and behavioural disabilities to achieve their potential through exciting activities.

The charity has lost over £1 million due to closure during the Coronavirus pandemic - this is having a severe impact. I have been lucky to have a tour of this incredible centre and meet the people who work here every day. They care. A lot.

Guests who stay at the Calvert don't just come back year-on-year for the activities. They come for the memories, the relationships and the human connections they make along the way. They come for the sense of belonging they find here, in the peace and freedom of Exmoor, and for the self-belief and inner confidence that stays with them long after they return home.

My promise to the Calvert Trust is that I will walk, run, swim, crawl, drag my way to a healthier me, while raising money and awareness for them along the way.

My young daughter's dream is to ride a horse beside me...I would love to achieve this with her.

For anyone who is scared and lets that fear stop them; for anyone whose weight holds them back; and for anyone whose voice shouts "no" but whose heart whispers "yes" ... dare to believe in yourself. There are so many others who don't have the privilege or opportunity.

Any support you can give to this deserving charity would be extremely appreciated.

From the bottom of my soon-to-be-healthier heart... thank you ❤
