Mixteca's food distribution program is unique in that it centers on food justice. Our current collaborations include working with local farmers, focused on getting fresh produce to community members, protecting workers' rights in restaurants, and calling attention to the fact that access to healthy foods should be considered a fundamental human right.
Over the past year, Mixteca has worked tirelessly to ensure the Latinx and indigenous Latinx immigrant communities have access to healthy and culturally appropriate foods. In February, we also opened the first community refrigerator in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Over the past months, it has become a vital resource for the community.
As we look forward to recovering from the pandemic, we know that immigrant families will take longer to recover than other communities. Your support will help Mixteca continue its programming around food access, revitalization of traditional agriculture techniques, cooking classes, and food distribution.
