Story
Hello, my name is Miles and I'm a 17 year old Sea Cadet. Over the summer I was selected for the CVQO Westminster Award final expedition in Cornwall. Along with my fellow finalists, I got to volunteer for some amazing charities, who I am now trying to raise funds for. The charities were:
Cornwall Wildlife Trust
ShelterBox
Surfers Against Sewage
The Wave Project
The Eden Project
The National Trust
I have always been passionate about protecting our environment, including our rivers and oceans. Last November I ran a National Virtual Environment Workshop open to all 15,000 Sea Cadets in the UK.
As a volunteer paddlesport, windsurfing and sailing instructor, I take every opportunity to teach others how to spot environmental issues and look after their boating environment. Every positive action, no matter how small, will have a wider effect and help to protect our planet for future generations.
This is why I have chosen to embark on a half marathon litter pick along the River Thames. The distance is mighty, but the act is simple (something we can all do) and can really make a difference.
I will be doing this on Saturday 3rd September, and will hopefully make an impact on the urban debris that enters our water environment - which lowers water quality and devastates wildlife. I will be starting in the early hours at Henley-on-Thames and hope to inspire many others along the route downstream.
It would be amazing if you could support me by donating to my page, or by carrying out your own litter pick where you are.
Please visit my page on Saturday for updates on my progress...
